Unai Emery's demand for positive questions in his post-match interview after Aston Villa's defeat to Brighton has gone down very well with fans.

The Spaniard was animated in his conversation with Sky Sports and made it clear he didn't want to talk about any negatives, with the Villans sitting pretty in fourth spot.

Despite the defeat to Brighton, Villa are seven points clear of Tottenham in the race for the Champions League, with Spurs failing to take advantage having lost to Liverpool later on Sunday.

They trail Olympiakos 4-2 heading into the second leg of their Europa Conference League tie on Thursday, but they aren't out of it and have a chance of turning it around.

Villa were disappointing against Brighton, but after the game, their manager had nothing but good things to say about his players.

Emery told Sky Sports: "I can't tell the players anything negative because they are doing a big effort.

"We need to rest our minds, recover and keep going."

He was then asked about Villa's last three games, which has heeded two defeats and a draw and Emery said: "No negatives, positives.

"You are asking me about the last matches. Arsenal, we won. During the season, we've won a lot of matches at home.

"You can ask me anything you want, but I want to hear positive things."

This response made him very popular with the Villa faithful, with one fan sayinh: "God, I love this man. He’s pure class."

Another added: "Exactly this. 100% agree with him. These players are brilliant and deserve our UNEQUIVOCAL support at the moment. Any discussion or criticism can wait until the season end."

Finally, one more said: "European semi final and 4th place. Unbelievable work from him and the players."

Emery's side have been magnificent this season, and they are on the cusp of getting a place in the Champions League, which would be incredible for the club.

Villa need just a point from their remaining two league matches this season which sees them entertain Liverpool and travel to Crystal Palace.

But they may get over the line with two defeats anyway as Spurs would at least need seven points from their remaining three matches, one of them seeing them face reigning champions Manchester City, while also overturning a goal difference of +9 that Villa have on them.
