Mason Mount has been ruled out of Manchester United’s game with Arsenal through injury in a major blow for Erik ten Hag.

Though the Dutchman has declared that three of his stars are in contention to face the Premier League title challengers at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Summer signing Mount, who arrived from Chelsea, has suffered another setback just days after making his first Premier League start since October in the 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Mount picked up an injury in training on Thursday and United boss Ten Hag has confirmed the 25-year-old will play no part in their next match.

Though the England international's niggle isn't thought to be serious, and is expected to be fit to face Brighton on the last game of the campaign.

Speaking to the club's in-house media team, the Dutchman said: "It's a minor issue. So he's definitely not out for the season. I think a couple of days, then he'll return.

"Maybe Newcastle [next Wednesday] is too short, but I think he can be available for Brighton."

Elsewhere, Left-back Luke Shaw has also suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring strain, but hope remains that he could return in time for the FA Cup final on May 25.

But there is some good news for United with Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay and Marcus Rashford in contention to return for the clash at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag said in his pre-match press conference: "Rashy trained this morning, and we have to see how he recovered from this.

"But I think it looks quite good and I hope he can tomorrow make the next training and then see if he is available for Sunday."

Before adding: "Bruno was on the pitch and Scott McTominay was on the pitch, so there are some players returning."

Meanwhile, Lisandro Martinez this week pleaded with Ten Hag to play against Arsenal despite not being ready to return from a calf strain.

Though the ex-Ajax manager has insisted the World Cup winner is still not ready to return to action.

He remarked: [Martinez] is desperate to play, he misses so much, the team missed him.

"He wants to play but he had three injuries across the season and now he is almost there, injury-free, at the end of the healing process, but now he has to get back into team training and into matches.

"I will never gamble with a player, never. It's about them, it's about their futures.

"That's most important about their careers and I have to take responsibility for it. The club is the most important, but the safety, the health of the player is high level."
